
Stop Waiting for Your Oven to Preheat
Most heating elements are slow. They rely on heating up a big chunk of metal and then waiting for the air to move around—which takes forever. We decided to do things differently. We use short-wave infrared halogen lamps. Instead of trying to warm up the entire atmosphere inside the oven, these lamps shoot heat directly onto the food. They hit 300°C in a few seconds. It’s a total shift in how you think about cooking.
How it actually works
Inside the lamp, there’s a tungsten filament wrapped in a high-purity quartz tube. We fill that tube with a specific halogen gas mix. Without that gas, the filament would just evaporate and burn out. With it? We can crank the heat way up without breaking the lamp. The result is a massive burst of heat the moment you flip the switch. You can basically kiss those ten-minute preheat cycles goodbye.
Fitting them in
We made these to be easy. They’re basically drop-in replacements. Most of them use R7s or SK15 connectors, so they should click right into your current oven housing without you having to rewire the whole thing. We also used a specific type of quartz for the glass. It can handle the shock of jumping from room temperature to 300°C in a heartbeat without cracking.
The catch (because there’s always one)
Here’s the thing: all that concentrated energy is intense. Because the heat is so focused, it can be hard on the oven’s frame. You have to make sure your ventilation is on point. If the air doesn’t move, that heat can soak into the chassis and fry your electronic controllers or melt your plastic gaskets. It’s powerful stuff, so you can’t ignore the airflow. Plus, you’ll want a solid PID controller. These lamps are incredibly precise, but if you just leave them on full blast without a sensor to tell them when to stop, you’ll char your food to a crisp before the air in the oven even feels warm.
