Here’s the truth about infrared heaters: most of them don’t actually die because the filament gives up. They die because water sneaks into the housing and wrecks everything. That’s why we obsessed over the IPX5 rating for our gear. We wanted to stop the leaks and the fogging before they could kill your equipment. The reality of IPX5 When we talk about IPX5, we’re basically saying the unit can take a direct hit from a water jet at any angle and keep on ticking. We make that happen by sealing the connection points tight and using gaskets that keep splashes away from the electrical terminals. It’s a big deal in steamy or misty spots. Moisture loves to settle on cold surfaces, and once it does, it creates a path for electricity to go where it shouldn’t. That’s how you get a short circuit. We also added an anti-fog design to keep the quartz tube crystal clear. If you’ve got a layer of condensation on your lamp, your heat is just getting absorbed by water instead of hitting your target. Not ideal. Saving the filament We wrap the heating element in a sealed quartz envelope to keep it isolated. Think about what happens when a cold water droplet hits a scorching hot lamp. It’s a thermal shock. It creates these tiny, invisible micro-cracks in the glass. Once that seal is cracked, oxygen rushes in and the filament burns out in minutes. By directing water away from the edges of the tube, we keep the temperature steady and the glass intact. A few things to keep in mind Now, waterproofing isn’t magic—it comes with some trade-offs. Because we’ve added physical shielding, you can’t just cram these into a tight corner and forget about them. You’ve got to keep an eye on your airflow. Those seals and guards can make it a bit harder for heat to escape from the back of the unit. Just make sure your mounting brackets give the housing some room to breathe so it doesn’t overheat while staying watertight. Why this actually matters It comes down to your sanity. You can stop the cycle of replacing lamps every few months. Whether you’re in a wash-down area or a humid plant, this setup can take a beating.
