It’s the seal where the lead-wire enters the housing. Think of it as a thermal bottleneck. When you’re cranking the heat, that specific spot takes a beating. If the material used to seal that gap isn’t up to the task, it just cracks. Plain and simple. The slow death of a cheap seal A lot of “commercial” units—the kind that look great on a brochure but aren’t meant for real industrial work—use basic adhesives or cheap silicone. The problem is that these materials shrink and harden every time the heater cycles on and off. Eventually, a tiny gap opens up. Moisture sneaks in, the wire insulation starts to flake away, and before you know it, you’ve got a dead short or a nasty arc-over. It’s a frustrating way for a piece of equipment to fail. Doing it the right way If you want something that actually lasts, you need a different approach. We use high-temperature glass-frit or ceramic potting compounds. The trick here is that these materials expand and contract at the same rate as the heater body. They move together. This creates a hermetic seal that keeps air and moisture out completely. You can’t just bend them at sharp angles during installation. If you do, you risk cracking the seal.
