Most of that heat just floats up to the ceiling while you’re still shivering. Plus, once steam gets inside the housing, they usually just give up and die. That’s why we’ve shifted toward IP44-rated infrared (IR) heaters. It’s a completely different way of staying warm in a humid room. The deal with IP44 Bathrooms are tough on electronics. You’ve got splashes, steam, and constant humidity. An IP44 rating is basically a promise that the unit can handle it. It keeps the guts of the heater safe from water splashing in from any angle. Without that protection, you’re just waiting for a short circuit or a burnt-out element to ruin your morning. Warm air vs. Warm you Here is the real magic: traditional heaters try to warm the air around you. Infrared doesn’t bother with the air. Instead, it sends out waves that warm your skin directly. It feels like stepping into a patch of sunlight on a cold day. You don’t have to stand there for ten minutes waiting for the room to “warm up.” You feel it instantly. We use short-wave elements for this, which means we can pack a ton of heat into a really slim fixture. It doesn’t take up much space, but it hits hard. A few things to keep in mind If your wiring is already in good shape, swapping an old heater for an IR system is usually a breeze. Just double-check that your circuit can handle the peak load so you don’t trip a breaker. But there is one catch. IR heat is directional. If you tuck the unit into a far corner or mount it way too high, you’ll miss the best part. You have to put it exactly where you actually stand.
